How warm was it on Tuesday night? Winter’s really behind us now. I met up with Adamm for another night ride at Lysterfield, and could finally retire the long sleeves and leg warmers for the year. I didn’t count on the humidity and only half filled my camelback with water, only to run out before the last few climbs back to the car. That won’t happen again.
It wasn’t the only hiccup. We enjoyed a spectacular light show when Adam’s mate’s homemade light set shorted out after reconnecting it on the trail. We watched the sparks run down the wire to his battery, igniting it briefly before he could get his boot to it. It was reconnected and mounted back on his bike without any problems and it didn’t miss a beat after that. He even had the brightest light by the end of the night, with our batteries getting low. Inexpensive and hardy.

I’m always paranoid about running out of water. I keep my 3 litre camlbak bladder full in the fridge, so I tend to carry that much water even if I’m only going out for an hour or so. Overkill perhaps.
As for the lights still working after the battery caught fire – I’m impressed!
Comment by bookboy October 12, 2006 @ 8:20 amMate, I’m jealous – riding and pyrotechnics.
Get used to the lack of water. Once the little one comes you’ll back on the water bottle in the cage so the bub can ride on yr back
Comment by antman October 12, 2006 @ 11:26 amYou should employ some support staff for when you go riding, that way you don’t have to worry about carrying water, cos they will be waiting for you with little plastic cups full every five k’s…
Comment by gruntski October 12, 2006 @ 6:35 pmI’ll pay you $5 an hour if you’re offering Grunski!
Comment by seebs October 12, 2006 @ 6:43 pmI like the bladder in the fridge idea Bookboy. I empty mine and freeze it after each ride. It’s not worth the hassle of hanging them up to dry out is it?
Hey Lex, did you end up test riding that Blur LT?
Comment by seebs October 12, 2006 @ 6:58 pmYeah, it is a freakin’ awesome ride – better than I thought it was going to be and a great climber. The only confusion is that I rode a small and a medium and can’t work out which is the right size for me.
Gotta love the test ride – I might post about it – next stop 575
Comment by antman October 13, 2006 @ 1:47 amHey, would you be able to send me the frame measurements of your Spesh (ST height, TT length and BB height) if you get a chance? You have a medium frame right?
Comment by antman October 13, 2006 @ 1:49 amSure,
ST – 17.5″
TT – 23″
BB – 13.2″ or 12.8″ with the flipped link (which I will try soon…)
A small frame will handle well, but won’t be as stable for trail riding as a medium frame.
I think the saying’s ‘Small and flickable or large and predictable?’
So where did they let you test ride it?
Comment by seebs October 13, 2006 @ 11:45 pmThanks for the info mate.
Comment by antman October 17, 2006 @ 10:11 pmThe bike shop dude said I could take his personal BLT home (coz he’s trying to sell it), but I just road it in a park nearby to the shop which had a mix of terrain
